4G connection continuously disconnects while using mobile hotspot

Does anyone else have this problem?  I have a Droid DNA.  The 4G access works fine on the phone normally, but when I activate the mobile hotspot it cuts out continuously.  Sometimes I can manage to load a web page, so I know it has some connectivity, but the constant disconnection makes it useless.  I do in fact have the data plan with mobile hotspot, but I'm about to cancel it since in this state it's worthless to me.

YES! Its driving me crazy. For some reason it works for my main laptop when its connected, but anything else i try to connect, it will cut out about every 10 seconds and comeback on instantly. But like you said, its useless trying to load anything. Have you talked to Verizon yet?

Surprisingly I have found that out of all the devices the Nexus has the best and most consistent hot spot.

I don't have a solution, but I just wanted to say cool screen name, heathkit, a genuine blast from the past (not that I ever built one, but I hung out with some electrical engineers in college a few decades ago).

yup.  It's horrible.

I talked at length to support yesterday all the way up to a "Tier 2" tech.  They even gave me a totally new phone and it still does the same thing.  I tried my laptop (Mac Air) and a Tablet (Galaxy Tab 2).  Both had the same issue.  Then I tethered with a cable, same thing.

Finally I got out a Virgin pay as you go hotspot, connected and used it flawlessly the entire time the DNA hotspot wouldn't work.

I don't know what to say other than it's absolutely useless as a hotspot and since I'm on a family shared plan there is  nothing I can cancel.

Really poor quality assurance in my opinion.  Flagship device my foot.

@chadvavra 1/2 I checked and the next update for the phone is expected to resolve an issue where the hotspot loses connectivity.

They don't have an estimated time on the update though.....

Well at least its known and hopefully will be fixed. I dont know why, but theres not one disconnect when my laptop is connected to it. I can use it all day. I can also connect to it from my xbox at the same time with no problems. But once I try to connect my nexus 7 or my netbook, the 4G logo starts disappearing and reappearing. I took it to verizon and they connected their tablet to it. The guy loaded up a web page and then the 4G started doing it but he was scrolling up and down the page saying its working fine and insisted that the 4G logo doesn't always stay on and that when it goes off, it doesnt mean its losing connectivity. What?? Im thinking...Explain to me why ive never seen the logo disappear until I use hotspot and connect something and it not load pages or able to do anything over wifi. No thats not normal.I told him to try to load a different page instead of just scrolling on the same one and he claimed he did but i guarantee it didnt load up. I was in a hurry that day so I didnt have time to sit there and argue that Im not a 60 year old with their first android phone. I know what Im talking about. I told them id bring my nexus 7 in this week and show them.

I have a Samsung Stratosphere and added Hot Spot two days ago and I am having a similar problem.  My pages hang up while loading and I run a stock streamer and it hangs up and I have to cancel and restart to get it going.  Verizon techs had me do a hard start and that did not help.  I talked with E*trade thinking it may be them.  Them made some changes but it is still happening. I started it up on my wife's computer and it is also occurring there.  It has to be the phone, 4G or Hot Spot software.  I am sure both problems are tied together.

Thanks everyone for sharing your concerns with your Droid DNA. The mobile hotspot is an excellent, useful feature and I know that it can be upsetting when it is not reliable. As chadvara commented, we have seen other reports of this issue and our product team is currently investigating it along with HTC. A fix is expected in the next software release, however we don't have a date for the update currently. When new software updates are released, you'll find details of the update on vzw.com/support under Device.

Yes, I have the same issue with data connection periodically dropping. Pretty much ruins the hotspot functionality. Have one week left of my return period. It's going back. Not waiting for promised updates.

How does something like this make it to production? So much for all that "rigorous" testing....

Should add that I'm referencing the Droid DNA in my post (wish the thread starter would have included that in the title).

Have used the GS3 with no issues and iPhone 5 as well with no issues. I'm sure other phones have problems at times but this problem with the DNA is repeatable. However,,,, unless you are looking for the LTE icon to cycle on and off you might never know that you are periodically (every couple of minutes) losing your data connection. You might just think "gee the Internet seems slow". But... if you keep the screen awake and watch, you will see the DNA 4G/LTE icon cycle off then on.
