You mean the apps that came built in the phone? No you cannot remove them. If you want to free up some room my advice would be to clear the data/cache in the apps. Some of them like the browser gather up a bunch of data. Just go to settings-->applications-->manage apps-->select app (like browser or google maps say)-->clear data
Another way to free up some space is to simply uninstall the apps you are not using that you did install. If I am no longer using an app as much as I did before I just uninstall it.
