Task Killers Not Needed - They only slow down the device

FYI - android was designed to handle all of this for you.  I noticed myself how much faster and smoother my scrolling is when I uninstalled the task killer.

task killer app is ABOSULTELY necessary... the email app crashes constantly on my droids. in order to get it to reconnect and grab my new email, i haveto first KILL the app.. just shutting it down doesn't seem to do the trick.

until they offer an update to fix this issue on my phone, I will be keeping a task kille rinstalled and right on the home screen.

I think what the thread was focusing on was that task killers aren't needed to close open applications as some feel is absolutely necessary to free memory.

TaskKillers are in fact needed for special situations as "DJA984" references. I have "Advanced Task Killer" installed, but rarely use it... as a matter of fact, if you happen to notice "Available Memory" running low, run a few standard apps then go back and look again. Many times, I'd see it jump from 18M to 45M automatically as it should.

Some people just want to see that HIGH number of free memory available all the time. However, what alot of people think as low memory causing "lag" is actually just a poorly written "service/background-application" being a CPU hog... so when they "kill all" it kills the bad apps and makes the phone run better.

Android and the open market are a blessing and a curse. Even MOTO or HTC applications don't necessarily run the best (hence the 2 MR patches coming).

In summary, task killers are useful for special purposes and for tech savvy users, but they can cause more harm then good if not completely understood.

I give "Advanced Task Killer" a good reference because it seems to hide alot of required background apps. There are some task killers on the market that will kill EVERYTHING running including Dialer, HTC Sense, SMS, etc... very bad.

Thank You! Finally someone gets it. The operating system was developed to only allow 6 apps to run in the background (aside from the system services like Gmail and Phone) and the Task Manager apps just waste more system resources, slowing your phone down more.

{keep it courteous}

The phone was designed, yes, to multitask. It was designed to pull information constantly, and it was designed to do a lot of things. However, try putting widgets, a few things on your home screen, fill it up. Try that, particularly, say, RSS News Widgets -- come back and tell me how smooth it runs.

Task Killers were designed to have the user specifically kill the applications that you find that are not needed that are running. It's like putting a leash on a dog, you can only let it run before it gets too crazy and tangles itself with the leash.

The processor cannot handle it running too many processes, and furthermore, the process isn't overclocked to do so (And if you wanted to, you would have to root).

That is why I prescribed Advanced Task Manager -- it tells you, by a notification in your notification pane if it is running. And even then you can manually stop it by going into the program yourself or using the widget (doing so will take you to the homescreen).

So please, either edit your original post dear OP or become further educated on how these things really work.

Edit: Sorry Wendy ❤️

If third party developers would simply add a "Exit' menu option a task kill would not be needed.

For example the Pandora app has a option to "Exit" and when you select that it closes down and does not stay resident in memory.   All non OS critical apps should have the ability to exit plain and simple.

Thirded.  It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult of an addition.  And it would help save battery and memory.
