How to stop applications from restoring automatically

I tried to factory reset my phone but when I did all of the applications I've ever downloaded (including ones I don't want anymore) came flooding back to the device. Is there any way to prevent these applications from restoring after a factory reset? I have already turned off "Back up my settings" in the Privacy settings. That had an effect on my settings, but not on the Applications that I have downloaded from the Android Market.

I figured out how to solve this problem. After you factory reset the phone, when it asks you to sign into your Gmail account, hit the Skip button to skip the step instead of signing in. You will then be presented with the home screen. At this point, open up the Gmail app and sign-in. Your Mail, Contacts, and Calendar will sync but the Applications you have previously downloaded won't be automatically restored to your phone. In you sign into your Gmail account immediately after factory resetting the phone before you get to the home screen, then any and all applications you have previously downloaded will be automatically restored to your phone.

I've seen that happen with the things that I've bought, not with just random applications. Try uninstalling them and that should work.

If you need to actually stop applications, use Advanced Task Manager. Works like a charm.

That's not really answering my question unfortunately. Applications that I have already uninstalled from the device automatically get reinstalled when I factory reset the phone. How can I prevent this from happening?

stolen from a Sprint Android forum....

When you do a factory reset it will automatically redownload all purchased applications ever downloaded and any free applications you have downloaded within the last 24 hours.

To prevent this from happening, before Reset go to:

Market > My downloads > Long Press the undesired application > tap unistall > Tell them why you are uninstalling the app > Tap Ok

This lets Google know you do not want the App, and it will not reinstall.
