When the Eris gets its update, will it perform as smooth and fast as the Incredible? Or with an OS update on the Eris, if the processor can't process the information fast enough, is the Eris OS update coming, actually worthless?

The Eris update is being customized for the phone hardware. So the clunky bits will, in theory, be removed to streamline performance on the handset. I have to of them in the house, one for my daughter and one for my wife, and my daughter's is using the leaked 2.1 update and it runs really well. I was pretty surprised. I think when the official update hits, people are going to be happy with it. It's just a matter of having patience and letting them get it fully ready to deploy.

From what I have read on forums about people running the 2.1 leak it runs pretty smooth and quick. You have to remember the Incredible is running a much faster processor than the Eris. The Eris will never seem as quick and responsive as the Incredible no matter what version of the Android software is installed. I am hoping we will see a nice speed improvement from version 1.5. And so far the reports that I have seen seem to show that we will see a nice improvement.

To be honest with you I just want to be able to use the apps that are compatible with 2.1. It sucks not being able to use so many of the great Android apps that are out there. I use ATK so I keep my phone running pretty quick as it is... just give me the apps!

I hear you. Twitter has just announced their Android app, which of course requires 2.1. http://bit.ly/cOGq1C

I am seeing many improvements as well on the v3 of the leaked version of the ROM and really like it....just a few quirks on some programs I had not being able to be installed on the 2.1 and vice versa, love the Navigation and overall responsiveness of the touchscreen...on a downside, I too have the low bars noted in the prior post...not sure if a display issue or not..., but with one bar the calls still seem better than most of my friends with 3-4 on their phones....hope the official OTA comes out soon!!

This is a tricky question, but a very good one. What you'll have to understand is that HTC can push out 2.1 to the phone. I'm not too sure that they edit it entirely to fit with the phone's specs, as much as it would just be pushed out OTA and then fixed.
The Eris runs on a less than 600MHz processor, which would make it a little difficult for it to push out such 'smoothness' when there are live wallpapers, widgets, etc. While I'm sure that 2.1 will come to Verizon, I am concerned about the quality of it. It'll most likely be gibbed like how the Droid was with 2.1, with the 2.1 Kernal some 2.1 features but not all of them.

I also have the v3 leak. 80% of the time it works great. But lately it have been freezing up a lot again, off and on. Somedays it works with no problems what so ever. Sometimes I can't even make a phone call without a force close, which I didn't know could happen with the phone setting. Any idea why it is so random, and if there is a fix for this?
