Hey guys, I purchased the droid, and its coming wednesday. Now I have used backup assistant for 1+ years and I know how to take my contacts from backup assistant to the droid however... when I log into my Verizon account online, it says I have to download backup assistant, even though I have it downloaded on my old phone and have it backup daily... What should I do?

well I have it downloaded on my old phone, and use it to transfer contacts between new phones. Now the droid doesn't have backup assistant, but there is a way to export your phone numbers on verizon's website. However when i go to back up assistant it tells me I dont have it downloaded, and need to download it, even though its there on my old phone, so I have no way of getting my contacts now.

from your computer, go to backup assistant. Download all your contacts into an excel of other spreadsheet. Save it as a CSV.
You may need to merge first and last names, clean it up a bit. Save.
Now go to gmail. Go to contacts. You then have an option to upload from a csv file. It isn't as easy as using backup assistant, but works well. Plan for it to take an hour to do it right.

or you could go to verizon, have them transfer the info, then sync it up with your gmail account, and copy it to your 16gb sd.

My verizon store charges $10 to put the contacts on the phone. I found it worth it to do it myself so it is done properly the first time.

I found out later that other reps in the same store will get the numbers moved over at no cost. I was simply working with a sales rep that had a terrible attitude. She made multiple rude remarks to me. I am very sad that my droid didn't work out for me (loved most parts of the phone)... but was thrilled to give her a chargeback on the sale!
