Will a 4G device work on a 3G network?

I am getting ready to upgrade my Xoom to 4G.  I live in an area where i cannot get 4G.  It is a very limited area that can.  I need to know before I upgrade to a 4G if I will still be able to use it in my 3G area where I live.

Yes, it will still have 3G capabilities.
