Never Was Able to Use my MIFI2200 where I live, but wondering if 4G Might...

Hello-

I will try to give you a brief background about my situation.  I have several questions so forgive me if I should place some of the questions in other areas. I am sure someone will let me know.

I have been with VZ for about 4 years. My contract on my Moto cell phone and MiFI2200 ended about 6 months ago and I still have not decided what I should do.  I do have a $30 and 450 NE2 upgrade, but right after I purchased the MiFI2200 it would only work for about 5 minutes, the lights would stop flashing and eventually the service would not work at all.  I was paying around $60 for what was suppose to be the "unlimited" data plan.

After working with about 8 tech specialist, and 2 Apple specialist, I was eventually told by the agent who helped me the most that it appears an area in Salt Lake city where I live (which is "unified" and in a train track area") will not get 3G service.  He also told me that I had been charged $10 over what the "unlimited" plan should have been.  So, I felt good about knowing that my bill would be $10 less, but wondered why nobody ever told me that I was charged an old rate.  Also I recently learned that I could have suspended the MIFI service for up to I think 2, 2 month intervals.  I went ahead and a week ago did that since I am still wondering what I should do.

I have been told various things about 4G LTE in this area and that the MIFI 4G (at the time I first looked for a new 4G device they only had the Samsung) might work better but others told me they use the same towers so it probably would not.  So the past year (until this past week when the MIFI2200 was suspended) I have been paying the $49 but unable to use the MIFI2200.  I know this sounds crazy, but I have been hoping to use the New very Two and really hoping the iPhone and the new MIFI4G (not sure of the official 4G name for the MIFI on the 4G network) would work.

I was surprised that not one agent has ever offered any kind of refund for paying the MIFI data fee every month, except what the tech agent told me about me being overcharged.

This is kind of my situation in a summery. I have always had Apple computers (for the past 16 years, so I have some knowledge about this brand. I have never had a smartphone or sent a text message so my knowledge in this area is very limited.  I am not sure if I can buy the Applecare if I upgrade to an iPhone with Verizon or even the New Every Two,  but I am assuming Apple will not honor the New Every Two.

The Sprint unlimited plan sounds good but I have no idea if this is a good network or company to be with.  I have looked at the iPhone 4G (not sure of the exact name) and it looks like I would be able to use it fairly quickly.  I would like to get the $50 NE2 for the MiFI2200 but I am not sure if the MIFI 4G would work.  Does anybody know if the 3G has not worked for anytime over about 5 minutes, if the MIFI4G would do the same?

I am really disappointed in  this company for not working with me and once the numerous tech support agents are unable to get my MiFI2200 up and running, it is hard to get any kind o advice regarding this line or the use of this device.

There is a lot left out and I know it should probably be put in another area of the forum but for some reason when I try to go to other areas of the forum I am asked to register. I have been unable to get any help why this  happening.  If anybody knows why this web page comes up with a lot of questions for me asking me to register for the Forums.  Once in a Blue Moon, like today, I am able to navigate to the forums, but I am thinking this might not be the right forum for this post.

Cheers.

I would have a hard time beleiving if you are having problems with the MIFI 2200 you would have any better luck with the the 4G devices.  They are flaky at best.  I am a little confused by your experience with the 3G being affected by the area you live.  If it's something environmental than maybe the 4G would be better but I would be very skeptical.  The only way you are going to know is to try it.

On your other question if you can go with any other provider than Verizon I would be all means do it, they can't possibly be worse as far as 4G.  Look through the posts in this catagory and you will quickly see that Verizon 4G is about the eqivalent of what you say you have been going through with 3G.

kind of a negative post but I will say that verizon says the 4G will most likely work much better than the 3G in the area I live.  do you go through life doubting so much?  what you read is what has occured when I have dealt with the tech support for over a year.  if they have an area that does not get a 3G signal, they do not have that signal.  there is no doubting it, it has happened.

I will most likely try the 4G since they say I can return them and they will not charge me a restocking fee since my expereince with Verizon has been a nightmare.

I am also looking at getting the iPhone.  anything negative to say about this possibility?

What cross streets/intersection are you close by? There are over a dozen new cell sites in development for SL County, maybe one of them will help out your coverage.

I am actually in Salt Lake city but this small area the tech agents have told me has been a problem.  somehow they can tell when they look it up.  It is near 3900 south and the TRAX station, down 210 West a bit which is south of 3900 south.  they built a new apt complex there and they have done some work for the Frontrunner that will go to Provo eventually.  it is an Unified area, if that means anything.

Interesting that you can't even pick up a 3G signal in that area, there's a few cell sites not too far in that area. I have noticed, though, that when driving on the freeway near 3900 S, my streaming music stops and buffers (which is strange because there is a cell site west of the freeway).

There's a new cell site being built by the theatre near 3300 S and State, but that won't help where you are at unfortunately.

Yea they tell me it is from the railroad tracks and the towers/poles the TRAX uses.  It used to be filled just with dirt until they started building the area up.  I have not been able to get my MIFI2200 to work more than 5 monites for the last year when I moved in that area.  I am wondering if I try it and send the equipment back.  I was told they will not charge me a restocking fee but I am not sure iof I should try the MIFI 4G or the Samsoung.  I am looking for a smartphone too but wondering if I should setle or get the iPhone 4S from Verizon since I can get an upgrade.  I have the $50 upgrade for the MIFI 2200 and the $30 upgrade for the MOtO cell phone I have.  I am wowndering if I should get the iPhone at the Apple store which would not allow me to use the New Every Two which they will still give me even know the program is not longer being used or get the phone at the Apple Store.  I do not think Verizon sells applecare.  Just some things I am concerned about especially since I have never used a smartphone.  the iPhone would seem to be the best bet since I have used Apple computers for about 16 years, so I have that knowledge which might help a little when using their phone.
