Will my Droid 2 be compatible with 4G? In other words, can the firmware of my Droid 2 be upgraded to be used with 4G when it becomes available in my area?

No. A firmware update will not change the radio in the phone. It is a physical radio update that will be required.
No, I just bought my Droid about 45 days ago, spent a lot of money to get it, and was told by Verizon that there is no upgrade available for this phone. I am telling everyone to hold off before buying a new phone from Verizon. All these people who are buying a new phone for Christmas is wasting their money.

Initially Verizons 4G service will only be available in a few select (larger) cities. Verizon says they won't have full LTE coverage in the US until 2013. Are you really telling some people to hold off buying a phone until 2013?
I can see the people who live in the first 38 cities holding off buying for a couple of months if they want 4G service, which I'm sure will cost more, but telling everyone to wait until 2012 or 2013 before getting a new phone..... c,mon!
I have a Droid X with 3G service and I can tell you, it's pretty fast. Maybe not as fast as LTE will be, but still, pretty fast.
Happy Thanksgiving and I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!
