I'm accruing data usage when I'm connected to wifi

I understand Facebook did just add this feature and we will turn it off; however it does not explain usage that is accruing when my daughter is not using her phone.  I would guess that one would have to be scrolling through the newsfeed for the videos to activate no?

and does not explain why my phone it not using near as much data as she is and I do not have my videos turned off either.
