You are charged for how much data was transmitted to your device.

you speaking of kilobytes too trivial and insignificant.

let say you are streaming a 5 min clip for example. the video will first buffer and thats data counting towards your allotment. if the video buffers 100% verizon will bill you for the full amount of the video whether you get to watch it in full or just a sneak peek.

Thanks Intocable.  What if I am loading a webpage like verizon.com and I stop it half way through it loading.  Do you know if I am charged for the data as it is loading?  My experience has been that the progress bar gets half way across and then slows down and after 30 seconds I stop it.  Am I charged for the beginning of the downloaded page?

Thanks.  So if half a web page loaded then I was charged for that even though I stopped it before the entire page came up?  Is that correct?

If you received the data for only half the webpage, yes you would only be charged for half the data.

Keep in mind, just because the webpage has not appeared on your screen does not mean you haven't received all of the data. The phone may have received ALL of the data and is just rendering/scaling the webpage for viewing, so just because the page has not yet appeared on your screen does not mean you haven't received all of the data.

Ahhh, gotta love that capped data. Look at the mindset it creates. Micro-management concerns right down to whether a web page is partially loaded or not.

I personally do not see the problem. Just because you have capped data does not mean you have to micro-manage. Understanding how it works does NOT equate to micro-managing.

Most things in your life are "capped" in the same way data is capped.

Take a car for example. The gas for my car is "capped" the same way as data in that I pay for what I use. If I were to drive out of my house only to get a mile down the road and suddenly realize I had forgotten something and have to go home, OH NO, I have just suddenly "partially loaded" that trip and will now have to pay for the gas I have already used, go home, get the item I forgot and start from scratch again. Does this mean I am micro-managing my gas consumption? NO. All it means is that I have to pay for the gas on that "partial" trip and for additional gas if I go out again.

Ahhh, gotta love that capped gas. I guess I must be micro-managing....

Being aware and micro-managing ARE NOT the same thing. Every time I "partially" load a webpage only to decide to go to another site instead, it doesn't even cross my mind about the amount of data I have "wastefully" used. It also makes VERY LITTLE impact on my total data consumption for the entire month, actually to the point of being insignificant in scale compared to my total data allowance.

Personally, I don't have a problem with capped data either. Have a 2 gig plan, use about 800 Meg a month, any audio or video streaming is done over WiFi. So I don't need to micro-manage my data usage down to partial web page loads, but apparently the OP does, and that is what I was commenting on.  As for gas, I do manage that consumption a bit more, I fill up on the same 2 days of the month, 11th and 25th, and expect a draw of about 10.725 gallons each fill.  Though lately I've been seeing fillups of only 8.752. Guess I need to quit posting on these forums and get out more.

It could also be the OP was just trying to understand data usage, not micro-manage.
