AWS service in Washington DC

I've read the articles about AWS service in Washington DC.  Is AWS already available or availible sometime in the near future?  If the later then what is the date or at least month of the role out of AWS?

rbblake, good job on researching AWS. However, help us out. Are you referring to Amazon Web Services? If  not, please provide a brief description of AWS in order for us to address your concerns. Meanwhile, did you know that you can retrieve release dates and new services offered on our network here: http://bit.ly/n5snpq

The poster is referring to the LTE 1700 MHz frequency (band 4). It is the same AWS mentioned in this press release. http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/article/2013/12/verizon-wireless-4g-lte-three-year-anniversary.h...

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Yes, thank you Ann154. When will this be deployed in the Washington DC area?

One important thing to consider is what phone you have and has Verizon enabled access to Band 4. The only handsets I know that can access Band 4 are iphone 5s, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 3.  Of the three, I believe only the S4 iphone 5s have been given access.

It will also depend on what towers they add AWS to.   Initially they may only flip the switch on towers in downtown Washington DC and leave the burbs turned off to use the 700 mhz band that will now be less congested.

It's a spectrum that has been discussed multiple times by official VZ press statements, including releases from many C-level executives...

I believe the Iphone 5c and the Lumina 928 also have the ability to use AWS and I think the HTC One does too. All new Verizon phones coming out in 2014 will have to support AWS.

I do wish Verizon's coverage maps would distinguish between LTE over 700 MHz and TE over AWS so people know exactly which areas have this. Sprint does that with their Spark network. And At&t maps distinguishes HSPA+ and 4G LTE.

Ok, thanks everyone for your answers.  But, is anybody from Verizon Wireless Customer Service going to answer my question about when Washington DC will get the new faster speeds? And also, why are still having to pay full price for a network that isn't performing as advertised/marketed?  Doesn't seem legally right!

The only way we will officially know where the AWS frequency has been activated is if they issue a press release to the media. So far they haven't done that yet.

Thanks for your inquiry rbblake. I understand that updates to the network can be exciting. We don't have a specific date for when each area will be updated with AWS, but this process will continue thru ought 2014. AWS is still part of our LTE network, so your phone will not show anything different once AWS is deployed. Our advertised speeds will remain at 5-12 Mbps for 4G download speeds.
