Just to let you know... if you have ever had the Yahoo! mail app installed on your phone, then remove it... the email system is broken... GMail still works, but that is about it.
Seems the answer is easier than I thought... I found it here. https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/790273
Settings > Application Manager > ALL tab > Email > Clear Data and Clear Cache

I got on Verizon Chat. Rather than choose "Yahoo! Mail" and receive the message "unable to connect to server - 503: service unavailable", they had me choose "other" as an email provider option than sign in using my Yahoo info. Hope this helps.

GREAT !!! Yes this worked for me. I have a GS3 and this is the third time since I had this phone. Just stop receiving emails for no reason. But this surely works.........thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!
