go to straight talk and tell them you want to "port" your current numbers and start a new account with them. i am not sure if you will then have to pay any final bills from verizon first or not (early termination fees, etc). also, i'm not sure if you'll be able to use your current phones. most carriers have carrier branded and specific phones that can be used on their networks.

Going along with Azsaluki. 1) Is your contract finished? Remember your contract ends 4 months after you are eligible for an upgrade. If your contract is still going, there will be an early termination fee (ETF). 2) Check with Straight Talk to see if the phone you currently have is good on their network. 3) Ask them to port your current telephone number. You might need a different phone. 4) Either on line or in a Verizon Store, tell them that you are cancelling and would like to settle any and all debts (current bill plus any other fees they might charge such as the ETF.

Another thing to remember is that per the customer agreement whenever you port a line out it will bill to the end of your cycle so it is best to do a port out near the end of your cycle in order to avoid being billed an additional month

technically, yes. however, you have to request verizon to unlock the phone. then you have to port the number to straight talk. if verizon grants your request, then you get an unlock code and can do it manually. HOWEVER, you can brick your phone doing this. what you really need to do is go and talk to a straight talk person. this is a process that they should do for you.
as far as contacts go, if you are using your gmail account to back them up, then you will always have them. you'll lose the data because your phone will require a factory reset when it is unlocked. you should backup anything you want to keep (anything on the sd card should be safe. ie: pics, music or anything else that you store on the sd card, if you set it up to store that stuff on the sd card).

Hi, I work at a shop that repairs PC's tablets cell phones, etc. Mostly, my specialty is PC repair and programming. I've never gotten into the whole unlock thing. The shop is directly across from a Verizon Wireless shop in Colonial Heights, VA. A friend and manager at a restaurant within the shopping center brought in his Droid Razr X with a bad charge port and some overheating issues. It was a Verizon phone that he had on the Straight Talk Network. Two charge ports would not take and the overheating issue worsened. I was able to find him another Droid X ready for activation, however, Verizon referred him to Straight Talk and likewise, Straight Talk referred him to Verizon. Since my entire family has everything on through Verizon, (my family business) and at the shop, I constantly refer customers to the Verizon network, I stopped by to inquire if Verizon would grant approval to have the phone activated on Straight Talk, since his old phone (exactly the same) was no longer functional. Immediately, at the door, I was dissuaded by the greeter. All I need is some clarification as to what he needs to do in order to get service again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure why the greeter was so rude, considering not only is my family on the Network, but I'm also referring MANY customers to their location. Thank you.

You should check websites that discuss such topics like this. XDA Developers for one. A further discussion on this forum would be against the here.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Don't do #4 since if you notify verizon they may or will cancel your account in which case you will be stopped from porting out to any service. Your account line of service has to be current to be ported and not closed.
