You may have hit the spot! I found one morning that my phone was not charged, although it had been plugged in to the non-Verizon charger all night. The light was not on the transformer of that charger. I plugged it in to my computer to charge (every time since then) and I have also removed several applications--definitely the battery boosting?? ones, and so far, no phone calls made.
It does still open e-mails and things, so there is still something strange going on, but not the google searches for jibber-jabber ghost-typed search terms -- SO FAR!

I still wonder if there is a way to see what updates, etc. happened about 3-4 weeks ago, which was when all this started. There was definitely a (nice) change in the way everything looked -- way to skip over e-mails without opening (big red circle with - sign) and several other great updates.
