Cannot access internet thru Linksys WRT54GS router

I can connect to my wireless router.  I can access the internet when security mode on the router is DISABLED.  I cannot access the internet when security mode is set at WEP.

I want to leave the security set at WEP.  Any suggestions on how to access the internet thru my Razr when the router security mode is set at WEP?

There have been several folks reporting issues w/WEP as their choice in securing the connection.
WPA/2 and MAC filtering is what I use and it's flawless (for what it's worth to you)
I'm always curious to know: Why do you still use WEP? (NOT a critique, I'm just a curious bugger)

This shows up when a user is using a wireless B/G router with a Wireless N device...  Have you updated your firmware on your router?   http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT54GS

After I toggled the Wireless Security security mode option to "Pre-Shared Key", I was able to access the internet.  I never updated the firmware and my router is still using v2.09.1.  I cannot figure out how to download the firmware update - the Linksys instructions are confusing.

Why was I using WEP?  Haven't a clue - don't even know the difference between WEP, WPA, WSA and whatever else there is.  Heck even "Pre-Shared Key" doesn't indicate that its also WPA.

It works now, so I'm leaving it alone.

Do you know how many WRT54GS routers I've worked on/ with? It's amazing what firmware updates and, sometimes, just a good old fashioned hard reset can do... LOL.

If all else fails Apple makes one heck of a router in their Airport Extreme. It may cost a bit more but, If you want one that you plug in, hide out of sight, connect to and it just works... and works... and works... until you forget you even have one... You get the idea.

I keep all my routers firmware up to date because it minimize a number of known issue that users experiance, I recently replaced one of my Linksys with a Netgear and came to the conclusions that Netgear simplify things for the none savey users when it comes to firmware update, the router does all the work for you automatically.

I wouldnt see my self paying for a router from Apple, everything from them is overpriced for no reason at all..

i've never updated my older linksys wrt54g router, v 2.04.4 & can only connect with wep.

fwiw:

cody21 has/had, unless changed, the same older router but an older v 1.xx.x version & can connect wpa.

smashogre:

from another post, i no longer broadcast my ssid, so just how/why is my wep so inadequate, when it would be invisible if you show up in the area with your white van with umpteen $$ worth of sniffing gear.

That's my point, I always update mine and I can use wpa2 without issues..  I'm using my wrt54g router as a repeater now connected to my wireless N Netgear and wpa2 security level works perfectly.
