sending a refurbished phone HIGHLY UPSET!

so i got a brand new droid razr maxx about 2 weeks ago. i love this phone everything worked great. then the other night it started messing up. it went dead and i charged it. well when i turned it back on the screen was frozen i couldn't unlock it. the hard keys on the bottom weren't working, it was extremely hot ,it kept turning on and off by itself and i couldn't turn the screen on without unplugging the charger and plugging it back in. so i did a hard reset by pressing the up/down volume key + power button and it still didn't work. well it finally started working and i went to sleep. i woke up the next day and it was doing the same thing, it came back on finally again but it didn't give me the option to turn off when i hit the power button, and i had charged it all night i took it off charge at 8:00 a.m. by 11:00 a.m. it was down to 30% battery and extremely hot. so i take it up to Verizon and they tell me they will send me a REFURBISHED phone because i had gone over the 14 days by 2 days! i think this is complete and total bullcrap, i pretty much paid $350 to get a USED phone that had already messed up before. i talked to a couple different representatives and they explained how they are all LIKE brand new they go through all this testing yada yada ya. i don't care. it's still the fact of it being a used phone when i paid almost $400 for a new one. so they pretty much screwed me over. if my account wasn't in my dad's name and i had the extra money to spend to terminate my service and start one at a new company i would. they got the money for the phone and i got half the deal pretty much.

this likely won't make you feel any better, but it states in the contract that it can be exchanged in the first 14 days for and after that it will be replaced with a certified like new device. they have to set a time limit or they'd have to replace devices for up to a year with brand new devices. they simply can't afford to do that. fyi...i've bought certified like new devices before (because they are cheaper) and there was absolutely NO way to tell that it wasn't a brand new device.

You can always send your phone off to Motorola and be without a phone for a while or you could try a factory data reset.

I'm guessing this is the first time any electronic you bought has ever needed to be replaced, but this is common practice and at least you know now.

I agree, I would do a master reset. Could be an app that caused the issue.

We exchanged wife's Droid3 for a "like new" replacement and I couldn't tell the difference from a brand new device.  Don't sweat it unless the like new one isn't really like new..

I had a refurb Droid 3 sent to me and it works better than the original new device I had purchased. The only difference was that when I recieved it it didn't come with the manufacturer box and materials. I love my refurb.

Honestly there are a few types of refurbs...  There are ones that were messed up before, and ones that were returned during the grace period.  They can't repack those and sell them like they are BNIB.

Its not new after 14 days, period. You should have took it back the moment it messed up. Its like how a new car depreciates 30% after driving it off the lot.

You Got that right on the 14 day return:: We have a New Chevy Extended Cab an it just Cracked a Year Old an we have Replaced the Bottom Seat Covers an Cushion's , Had New Glove Compartment Door put in it.. an will be putting New Carpet in it in a Few Days because the Carpet Fibers are Wearing Off.  When we first Got it We had to Switch the Front Springs because one side was leaning Down more that the other side.  It was Covered By the Warranty!   But we couldn't Take it Back!  An we can't trade it Off either We would like to. Basically My Folks are Stuck with it. Unless Some one drops a Money tree on our Door Step. Lol

It's upsetting that we now must pay for the privilege of having manufacturers stand behind their products in the form of purchased warranties. I'm sorry for the understandable frustration you feel. It sometimes seems that once they have your money people do not really care if you are happy. However, you can make the best of this situation and realize that even though not apparent, things do work out if you keep your own integrity intact. Maybe you will love the refurbished and realize it's the way to go for future purchases giving you a lifetime of savings! Good luck keeping your good thoughts in the face of trials.
