My tbolt is still missing the clock app in the app drawer but some of my friends got it back.

Which baseband version of the software are you using on the Thunderbolt? The last system update returned the clock app to the app drawer.

my baseband is 1.48.00.0906w_1, 0.01.78.0906w_2

That is definitely not the latest version. You should have baseband version of 1.48.00.0930w_3, 0.01.78.0916w_3 and the build number/software number should be 2.11.605.9 CL206244 release keys.
Try checking for a software update. The last one was released late November/early December.

i have tried many times to check for updates it just goes away without saying no updates or anything.

Sometimes app stop the update process.. maybe try clearing the cache for the device..
If that doesn't work you can try a hard reset.
