the other day i noticed my screen had a crack in it and i never dropped the phone it wasnt a crack in the glass but in the oled screen after a few days it now has made the screen completely black it wont show any images over the course of days it went from the crack to a dark spot of burned in images to making the screen a purple color and then finally completely black verison is saying its not a workmanship defect and the insurance hasnt contacted me back after saying they needed more details
definitely sounds odd, but i've never heard of a screen just cracking without some kind of pressure being put on it (coworker cracked an iphone screen simply by keeping it in his front pocket. he's a big guy and when he sits down, his thigh was puting pressure on the device....like the device was being squished beetween his thigh and the outer denim of his jeans pocket....enough to make it crack).
I put my my phone in my front Pocket every once in a while but most of the Time it's in my Jacket or i clip my flap Holster to my Pants. Phones are made Tough but just a little twist from your Leg an the Size of the phone can Twist it enough to Crack it. Same thing happened To The Dodge Pickups one year the Torque from the Engine the V10 was so great it Twisted the Frame of the Truck just enough that it Cracked the Windshields on them an when they were replaced they would go for a while an it would happen Again.. That is till Dodge finally fixed it
lol...he didn't. he didn't even know how it happened. he showed it to me (it was 2 days old) and was like "what the....?" he said it was fine when he used it last and then all he did was put it in his pocket. i told him to sit down, and then i awkwardly pointed out just how tight his jeans get when he sits down. that's when he realized how much pressure he was puting on it when it's in his pocket and he's sitting down. he now uses a case for his belt...lol
I too have a cracked screen. Also now I have a shattered screen. The wonderful customer service team said that is why I do not get 4g?
So much for the corning gorilla unbreakable screen.
Nothing is unbreakable, I have seen a number of users damage a screen by placing them in a pocket, I damaged a device before in a bbelt carry case also because when I was in a work chair I did not notice that the phone was pressing on the arm of the chair until the damage was done.
Gorilla Glass or not, all items have a stress breaking point...
These folks seem to have the same issue.
Folks, quit making fun of this guy and others that have had the screen break. This phone, in spite of the advertising: Gorilla Glass, Kevlar case, metal frame, etc., is extremely fragile. I had mine break the Gorilla glass taking a picture. Never been dropped and I've had touch screen phones for years.
It's not that they are hard on the phone, it's that the phone is not strong enough to be used as a portable device in the field by normal people. We're not talking about dropping it off a ladder, we're talking about setting down in a chair, or maybe setting it on a table. Or, our 3 year old looking at a picture on it and flexing the case a little bit. Normal stuff we all do every day.
Motoroala (or maybe Google) and Verizon want this phone to be part of our everyday life so we use and buy more of their products. That means it should be able to withstand our everyday life, not break when we forget and actually use the thing instead of just watch 'movie trailers' and listen to music.
It isn't a baby that has to be coddled and protected at all times, it's a freaking phone.
Very interesting indeed. I had the DX for 18 months - no case or any protector at all. I *always* carried it in my front pants pocket(s) or my cargo pockets in my shorts. I had the occasional 'bang' against stuff just in the course of walking around or sitting. Would go out on the town dancing with it in my pocket as well. Had the Razr Maxx now for about 4 weeks - same procedure - no case, front pocket(s) ... you guys are scaring me into maybe getting a case for this one. lol
Cody i don't have either one of my Droids in a Case but since Body Clove is Moving there new Case for the Maxx out to the Retailors i going to try an Get one of those Android-Central Store Has them for $23.99 that's $6.00 bucks off of what Body glove sell's them self for. Its darn Nice case too as i used one With Inc. b33
For folks coming here with this problem, there are a lot of people having this problem. There's roughly one or two a day turning up on various sites around the web. When they say this hasn't been reported to customer service, call <********>, there have been scores of people calling about this problem. If you call Motorola and they tell you they have not had reports of this, call <********> again and tell them the same thing. You can even contact Corning (I and several other have) about this.
Sure you need your phone and don't have time to waste playing games with the manufacturer and suppliers, but at least leave a comment and complain loudly to the customer service people.

I have a droid Maxx of which, out of the blue, the amoled screen cracked. NOT the Gorilla glass. NOTHING happened to my knowledge to cause this, phone looks as if it came out of the box today, except when you look a little closer you can see it through the Gorilla glass. I’m getting the physical damage blame game from Verizon, although the people in the Verizon retail store seem surprised how this could happen, phone looks brand new. They don’t go very far to help me though. and proceed to tell me that I may be charged the entire retail price of a new phone if they send it in for exchange. I will blow up if that happens, especially after reading all these remarks. Where do we stand with the legal action, I WANT TO HELP
I just got a Maxx and that thing is huge in compared to my Incredible. I kept my Incredible in my front pocket and it was fine. But now I am nervous to keep my Maxx there as it does seem like the wrong bend from me would put undue stress on the phone. Unfortunately, the Verizon store where I bought my phone was out of any type of cases for the Maxx. They were saying that since the drop on price people have been snatching up the covers more quickly.
That Figures the stores at some Locations seem to do that all the Time But they seem to have a Ton of different Cases for the iPhone I see this at our Local stores as well but i don't shop at Just one of them i Move around. But there are one or Two of them that has a Full Rang of Accessories that's were i go the Most an Best Buy is another good Source if your Heavy into Accessories Just make sure it is for you Phone as the Packaging is Slightly different at the Best Buys..b33
Hey commonsense101... Do you work for Verizon? I was playing Words with Friend in bed with a huge comforter on the bed. My phone heated up to a point I needed to set it down. I picked it up a few minites later and they screen is shattered! NOT dropped. I have been looking at your comments all through this forum and you seem to work for Verizon and trying to make it sound as if these people are just bumping their screens, stuff happens! I had a Galaxy S for 2 years prior and not a scratch on it! Never used a protector either. Gorilla glass?! These phones have an issue and I hope Motorola and Verizon do something about this!
By the way, I left off the most important part of this. I had the Droid RAZR for less than 2 weeks!!!
Let me ask you... What do you consider useful information?! Verizon's or Motorolas customer service? Customer service is trained to say it's not a known issue! I work for a manufacturer in customer service for a major company, We are trained to say that!!!
You either work for Verizon, Motorola or are very naive.
I got you beat. I just received my Droid Razr yesterday at 1 pm. I took it home and plugged it in overnight. In the morning my screen was cracked. It did not move it and it did charge fully. I took it to Verizon and of course, they would do nothing. They say I must have dropped it. There are no scratches on the case to prove I dropped it. Then the agent at Verizon said I must have dropped something on it. ( I most certainly did not. I have raised hell with my daughter who has broken several screens and never believed her that she did nothing to it. Now I believe her!) This is a huge bummer. You pay mega bucks for the phone and then in one day the screen shatters. I am absolutely anal about my cell phone. I have had my Blackberry for 2 years without so much as a scratch on it! And in 18 hours I have a cracked screen???? There must be a defect in manufacturer. I live at 4600 feet. Could the pressure of high altitude cause this?
Wildman i don't know how to go on this it's baffled me. And i Guess mine has survived because the Way i care for them and i'm in no way shape or form saying that others are not taking care of there's it's sad to see it happening to so Many
Here's what i put my Little Girl's in they like the Padding. Kenny and Maxxy in a Koozy b33
