My husband just switched down from an Iphone Ss to an Iphone 4 because he was slammed with excessive data usage charges and was using very little as far as he knew, We thought it was Siri and didn't like Siri anyway so he switched. Now he is getting excessive data usage notices and charges again. Has had the phone about 6 weeks. Please help! Apple and Verizon both say something must be running but no idea what!

It's an app he has installed more than likely. Any app that is designed to run background data will do it. For example if you have iMessages(sending and receiving from iDevice to iDevice uses data NOT text). Those "free" apps that have advertisements is another one.

Double tap home key twice it will show you all running apps. I would have my Verizon app anytime you need to check your data or have usage controls to stop it. Check it everyday if you have to.

Battery could be added as the same problem if you lots of things going on the quicker the battery goes. The 4s has better battery life ironically but this has less it needs to do. What does he do on his phone and how many gigs is the phone he has?

Also look for an app you can download that will measure data usage by app so you can determine which one is the culprit. Android has one so I am sure somewhere there is one for an iPhone also.

Thanks for your suggestions. My husband does very little on his Iphone but he would do more if we could figure out what is going on! I don't even know how to interp his data usage. He makes and receives business calls and calls me often on my Verizon phone but doesn't use up our shared 700 minutes.. He checks the email since we share the same account. I have unlimited data. I think he has 2G. The Data Man Pro which I just installed and didn't even open just told me he has exceeded his daily quota. When he got his phone about 6 weeks ago he used my upgrade since I had used his to purchase my phone a year ago. This thing is gobbling up tons of data and the Apple store people said it was the "uploading" data function that was excessive not downloading . Even they said it makes no sense but couldn't solve it!

Is the data combined by accident? Anybody that's an Verizon expert. My dad got that memo although he had unlimited. Do you know the exact number to confirm if its true ? Next if you want a number per day you can have tech support justify the data. There has been a lot of people questioning data with iPhones. Did you do the software update. I noticed when after it downloaded to upload it took reg data to do that.
