LG Chocolate Touch - What's the deal with the Data Plan?

If you go into a store they can activate it without data very easily.  I had to do this with the ENV3 I got my husband for Christmas as it wouldn't work at home to activate.  Mary

I just called to activate my chocolate touch with the prepaid plan i have and they said i have to have a data plan and the cheapest one for it is $75. I see that others say its possible to use it on these plans and without a data package. please help!

I know on the "non-prepaid" plan you don't need data, but not sure about pre-paid.

good luck ive tried changing from my flip phone to 6 dif kinds of phones now and where i live the only thing my phone is good for is sending texts and you can forget about getting calls off since they started with the 3g and 4g crap the 25mile away tower doesnt have the bandwidth to think of  trying to use web somebody should seriously think of looking into making the data package completely seperate and not require a 65.00 a month bill for wanting to use an upgraded phone instead of one that came in the cracker jack box from walmart!

But most of the major carriers require data with the smart phones, it's not just verizon.  What happens when  you called to activate the chocolate, didn't they take the data off?  Mary
