Please HELP: Backup Assistant Error

I just got a new Samsung Stratosphere today and I am attempting to use backup assistant to upload my contacts to my new phone.  When I check backup assistant on the website, all my contacts are there.  But when I try to use the app on my new Stratosphere to upload my contacts, I get this message: "Service failed. Communication errors. No network coverage."

What does this mean?  My phone is connected to my wireless internet, as well as having access to newly activated 4G.  I am able to connect to the web, place calls, send texts, etc.  Smiley Sad  What do I need to do to make my backup assistant work?

Good morning domokosj,

Backup Assistant is a great app to archive your contacts with minimal efforts. You can even update your contact list online at www.getbackupnow.com, import, and export your contacts are you see fit. Understand that there may be come additional steps if you are migrating between mobile operating systems but the process is fairly simple to navigate.

The error message that you posted above is usually related to the device's data connection. May I ask what city & state are you in? I can check for any network releated issues in your area. For the Stratosphere, I would recommend turning off bluetooth and wifi off in the settings menu. Once this is done, please verify that web access if functional without wifi. If not then please post any error message that you may get. If you are able to connect successfully then retry the backup assistant app. If you get an error bessage with your backup assistant app then please reply with the error message so I can look further into a solution.

Thank you...

Personally, I would export my contacts from the website, and import them to your gmail account. They will sync with your phone.

I found when my Droid X was upgraded to Gingerbread last year, the dates (Birthdays, Anniversaries) were messed up on the phone. Backup assistant had the correct dates on the website, but when they synced to the phone, they got screwed up. I put all my contacts to gmail, cleared the data and cache on backup assistant and never looked back. Backup assistant is also very picky on Android for some reason. Backup Assistant was nice for feature phones, but for Android Phones, it got to be a pain in the rump. thus the switch to gmail for my contacts sync, and if you go to another Android phone, just activate the same email account, and the contacts will be there in a very short order.

I don't understand why Verizon pushes Backup Assistant so much (other than going platform to platform).  All I ever see are complaints about that thing, and gmail does an amazing job of keeping contacts straight.

Actually backup assistant worked very well with non smartphones... and it was nice to have a way to backup contacts on the phone without having to go through Verizon store to get them moved over.

Backup Assistant also worked well with my Droid X until it was updated to Gingerbread.. then I noticed the problem and switched.

Thank you very much!  Turning off my WiFi connection and only relying on the 4G worked.  No more error message and my contacts have loaded from Backup Assistant.
