Does your Iphone 4s make a rattling noise?

My Iphone sounds like a screw is loose when it vibrates.  It's coming from close to the camera.  If you tap lightly on the back of the phone near the top it sounds like a loose screw.  Has anyone else experienced this?

This is "normal". This occurs with the iPhone 4 also. Can't remember the exact cause but if I'm not mistaken it has something to do with the lens or casing of the lens inside of the phone. I guess after a while you get used to it, but to the best of my knowledge no damage occurs and nothing is loose to the point that it affects anything.

I wasted a total trip to Apple's store (after calling Verizon and Apple).  They said I should get it looked at.  I went there and the guy said it was normal and that Iphone 4s' come with two different types of mechanisms to make the phone vibrate - one goes up and down and the other spins.  I guess the one that goes up and down (my phone) makes a rattle noise.

I don't know if this is **bleep**, but I wish they would have stated this before I spent 1.5 hours in going to Apple and back.

I wasn't sure of the exact reason but I knew that the sound was normal as it exists in the iPhone 4.

Im not so sure this isnt a defect. Mine was fine and just started doing this too...tapping near the camera or anywhere on top. Mine doesnt occur when you tap the bottom. I noticed this as when I was putting it down on the table, I suddently started noticing this slight rattling sound. I bet its something loose inside. Im taking it in and see what they say because to me it isnt right where some have this slight rattle and others dont. My wifes which came at the same time, does not have this sound,

If you feel it's a defect then take it in to be checked out, but if it's anything like the "normal" sound then it's not a defect. The slight rattle that occurs and is considered "normal" occurs near the camera area which is consistent with what you say is occurring on yours. Also, if can be heard or noticed more depending on the case you're using (or if you don't use one at all). It won't hurt to take it in if you feel strongly about it though.

I fail to see how it's "normal" when it doesn't happen on all phones.  My iPhone 4 had no sound, it was solid as a rock. Now my new 4S rattles.  IMHO that's not normal..

As already stated, if you feel like you have an issue then go to your nearest VZW or Apple to have it checked out. There are 2 iPhone 4's in my house and both have the rattle...difference is, I have to actually shake both devices and listen closely to hear it...otherwise, I don't hear it at all except when my iPhone is sitting on a hard service and I get a message or a call (only because I have vibrate on so that it vibrates and rings/plays tones at the same time). My friend with an AT&T iPhone 4 also states she has a slight rattle, but only noticed it when asked and shook it to see. 3 co-workers have the 4s (1 with VZW and 2 with AT&T). All 3 of them have the rattle, but only one has a more noticable rattle than the others...still not loud as if something is broken but you can hear it more than the others. This is a small example compared to all of the iPhone 4 & 4s out there of course but it's just an example that it apparently exists with many. Plus you have to consider that some people actually hear noises better than others. This doesn't mean that there aren't any devices out there that truly have an issue. Just doesn't mean that what has been deemed as "normal" isn't normal. Point being, if you feel like you have an issue then by all means get it checked out. Worst case scenario, you will find out that there is something wrong and they replace your device...if it's normail then chances are if they replace your device the sound will exist in the replacement. If that occurs and you still aren't convinced ask them while you are in the store to check other devices to make sure this is truly "normal".

My Verizon iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S has a slight rattling when set down or small bump from time to time not consistent although both phones work fine,  it does have a limited warranty and I also purchased Applecare+ if I see it not functioning properly I will have Apple diagnose it and go from there if and when the time comes.
