I got my iPhone 4S on 10/14 with the 2 GB data plan. Can someone help me with the following questions?
1. If I'm at home connected to my wireless router that is connected to my RoadRunner cable modem, does it count toward my 2GB data usage if I browse internet, check my AOL e-mail, etc.?
2. When I look at the data usage online, it shows connections everyday around 3 AM for a very small amount -- do you have any idea what it might be doing? I didn't sign up for iCloud.
3. When I'm at a place where wi-fi is not available, "3G" appears on my phone display. If I browse internet or check my AOL mail or whatever, do I get extra charge for that, or does it simply count toward my 2GB plan?
Thanks so much for your help!

No it will not count towards your data usage. It only affects you while you are on 3G/1xx

That's the iPhone phoning home with diagnostics. When you initially setup your device there was 2 checkboxes which you probably skipped passed. Also it could be some application you have installed. Without knowing what's installed there is no way I could help you with that one.
3. When I'm at a place where wi-fi is not available, "3G" appears on my phone display. If I browse internet or check my AOL mail or whatever, do I get extra charge for that, or does it simply count toward my 2GB plan?
Yes as you are on Verizon's network and that will count towards your data.
Thanks so much for your help!

The last bit just to be explicit: no extra charge, 3G and 1xx (and GSM equivalents if using it abroad) is just standard data usage and is part of the 2GB plan. Of course, if you exceed 2GB, then there will be overage charges per GB.

and fyi, 2 gigs is actually a lot of data for an average user. unless you are streaming movies or music while you are not connected to wifi, then i doubt you'll hit 2 gigs in a month. check your data usage every week for a couple of months and you will get a real good idea of how much (or how little) you will actually use.

I need to be more careful in my wording here! The GSM equivalents abroad are data use, but are certainly not part of the 2GB, they will be part of an (expensive) additional package for international data if you use the Verizon SIM, or part of a package with another provider if you use a local SIM.
