Samsung Convoy micro sd card question

I have a Samsung Convoy (SCH-U640) and am looking at an 8GB Micro SD card but I have fond that they come in different speeds called classes. Can a Convoy take advantage of a class 10 card? Or should I go with the less expensive class 2?

I had wondered that, too. Sandisk has a forum -- forums.sandisk.com

My impression from what I read is that a non-smartphone won't benefit from the higher class. Since I don't have a memory card reader, I transfer music using the phone's USB mass storage mode. I compared the time it took to transfer 2gb of music from the computer to an LG VX8700 with a slower memory card and a 4gb class 4 memory card and did not see a difference.

However, my impression from what I read is that if you have a memory card reader and transfer files by plugging that memory card reader into the usb port of the computer, then the total time for the transfer will be shorter with a higher class card if you're transferring a large enough quantity of files at once.

Also, based on nothing more than a guess, there might be another benefit to investing in a higher class memory card. With an adapter, you could use that memory card for something else. Now other devices have ports for a memory card like video game machines and blu-ray players. Maybe you might have another use for that higher class memory card for a camera. Or then again, for all I know maybe those other electronics don't benefit from a higher class memory card.

If you don't mind my asking, who makes that 8gb class 10 card ? For an 8gb card, I didn't know there was one higher than the Sandisk class 4 which the Walmart by me sells for ~ $ 20

Thanks Mojavemoon for your input. I would like to add some information to your response regarding the MicroSD Cards.

Class 2 SD cards are for: H.264 video recording, MPEG-4, MPEG-2 video recording

Class 10 SD cards are for: Full HD video recording, HD still picture consecutive shooting

Because your device does not have HD capabilities, I would recommend the Class 2 card for the Samsung Convoy. Below I have provided you with a link that I found about the MicroSD Cards. I hope you find it helpful!

Thanks for your posting and have a great day!

does anyone know what size Micro SD cards are supported?   I have 2 phones (Both convoy 2) mine & my GF and want to get 2 cards one for each but would also like to use the cards as removable storage when time comes for new phones.   (My old Samsung U340s are over 4 years old both work just getting battery life issues.)   got these Convoy 2s as basic & free for long term VZ customer.

We dont do much in texting or emailing so didnt need extra costs of data plans for smart phones that are too smart for us old folks.

Anyone have good re views for USB card readers.   almost had my mind made up on a VIVITAR but reviews were all pretty poor quality.   With wanting to use these cards later should a Class 4 or Class 6 serve better longer term?

Note also attempting to DL/XFER files from the old smasung U340s to these has not worked out.   the old phones I cant find any Blue Tooth device support even though I thought it was there.   anyone know a better way than one phone book entry at a time??

thanks

Wpspiker, thanks for your questions!

The Samsung Convoy 2 supports up to a 32GB SD card.

For memory card readers, there are many out there. We currently sell SanDisk memory card readers with our card and they seem to work very well.

Also, for transferring your contacts, the easiest way to transfer them would be using Backup Assistant. Have you used Backup Assistant on your previous phones? That way you don't have to transfer them one at a time or in small groups to your new phone.
