Samsung Alias 2 Data Plan

My brother went into the Verizon store the other day looking to buy a new cellphone, and the guy behind the desk showed him the Alias 2 and said that it doesnt require a data plan. Is this true? I know that it used to require a data plan but if it doesn't anymore then I might consider getting one. Anybody know the real answer?

Hello BenK,

The Samsung Alias 2 is considered a 3G Multimedia phone that does require a $9.99 data plan or higher. If you are looking for a device that does not require a data plan please feel free to review our current selection of Feature Phones.

As of January 18 the Alias 2 no longer required a data plan. If you or your brother were to go to the store and purchase the phone you would NOT need a data plan.
The representative above that responded us incorrect in the information they have given you.

Verizon's website currently corroborates what the representative said; if the information on the website is out of date, then hopefully Verizon will update it soon.

What types of devices require a Data Package?

The requirements vary by device type:

Please refer to the Data Packages” page for pricing.

I would like to clear up the confusion on this Data Plan since I own a Samsung Alias 2 (SCH U750 V).

The Alias 1 and the Alias 3(Samsung Zeal... why they changed the name I don't know. It does look a bit "shinier" 😛 ) DO NOT require data plans THAT I KNOW OF. I would not be a bit surprised if the Zeal does now since it IS considered a full multimedia smartphone. 🙂

HOWEVER, the Alias 2 DOES require a Minimum Data Pckage. WHY it does is because it can be used as an Internet Tether Phone. Meaning that if you have the correct cables, you can hook it up to a computer and basically use it as a wireless internet device. Quite a handy little feature if you ever need it. 😄

Whether you actually do that or not is up to you, BUT regardless, a Data Package IS requried for this specific model because it has that capability . The Alias 1 and 3(The Zeal), DO NOT have the tether ability. Therefore, they do not require data packages. Unless VZW has changed that information in the last couple months since i last checked on them.

In any event, the $9.99 for 10 MB.Month MINIMUM Data Plan that I was requried to put on, since VZW has now made the switch over to Tiered Data Plans, was AUTOMATICALLY upgraded(WITHOUT me having to ask them to!) to 75 MB for $9.99(basically $10.00)/Month!

Considering I barely use my phone for ANY data usage other than VZW Song ID(EVERYBODY should have and use that App!), I am EXTREMELY pleased with the extra 65 MB/per month of data I could be using for EXACTLY the same price. I'd rather pay the $9.99 a month for that much data then NOT have a package and be charged a PER MB charge anyways. It's just logical. Plus, it's nice to have the extra data on there and available so that if I'm lost or hiking out in the middle of the woods (STILL with Cell Signal because VZW rocks like that!!! 😄 ), I can use the VZW Navigator as a GPS w/out the fear or wracking up major data charges!

VERY cool and VERY appreciated VZW! 😄
