I am trying to transfer my pictures from my phone to my computer but when I connect the phone to the computer it says USB device not recognized.  I do not have an SD card.  Why doesn't this work?

It doesn't work because you do not have an SD card - the SD card is the USB Mass Storage device it's looking for.

Go pick one up at an office supply store for $10, move your pix to the card, then try to connect, and you will have better luck.

Hello,

Thank you SuzieQ for providing a troubleshooting tip. It is very much appreciated.

Cicatrices, you will also want to try downloading the VCAST Media manager (desktop version). Which can be found at the link below and follow the instructions provided for installation. Please review the system requirements as well to ensure you are running an Operating System that is compatible.

Thank you.

I got an SD card and downloaded VCAST media manager.  Nothing.  My computer does not recognize my phone and I can't upload anything to media manager.

A few reasons why things will not work with an SD card:
The card is not formatted for the phone or has no files copied to it. You need to insert the card (it SHOULD format automatically but may need to be done manually through the phone menu).

Once the card is formatted, copy the files (move the files) to the card.

The USB port on the computer that you are connecting to needs to be USB 2.0; older 1.0 ports don't have enough "ooomph" to power the phone connection. Also, peripheral ports (via keyboard, hub, etc) generally don't work; the USB port needs to be directly connected to the computer motherboard.

We don't use Media Manager at all to transfer stuff to the computer from our ENV3's.

That's how I thought it should work.  As of now I have media manager on my phone and am having to individually upload each picture.  There has to be a better way.  I don't know how to format the SD card.  I just put it into the phone.

If the card is in the phone, then go to your pictures, then go to Options >> Manage my Pics >> and from there you can move them all to the card.

Then use the USB connection, or take the card out and use a card reader, to copy the pics to your computer.

Ok...am copying the pics to the card right now.  So far, so good.  When I connect the phone to the computer it still says USB device not recognized.  How do I fix this?

I really appreciate all your help.  Thanks!

OK, when you connect the phone via USB cable - open the phone, go to Menu >> Settings and Tools >> Tools >> USB Mass Storage, and it should say it's connected . . . .

If not, then check to be sure your post is USB 2.0, and that it is NOT a peripheral connection (USB hub, keyboard port, etc). It needs to be a direct connection to the computer.

When you initially plug the phone in, so you get a message to Sync data, or sync music? Whatever message I get when I initially plug the phone in, I hit cancel (or END) and just use the menu as above to link it up.

It says Connection Failed, Check Cable Connection.  I am starting to think the cable may be the problem.  I do not get a message to sync when I plug it in either.  My USB ports are 2.0.
