No 4G signal on Thunderbolt

48 hours after getting my Thunderbolt, I have yet to receive a 4G signal.  I'm in the Phoenix area and Verizon map coverage says I SHOULD have 4g in my specific location.

The only time I experianced a 4g signal was in the Verizon store when I picked the phone up and had it turned on.

Any suggestions?

I have used an app killer to shut down what I think are unnecessary apps and services.  Is there a service that I might have turn off that is required to connect to the 4g signal?

There is a setting, but it is not in the normal menus. So the device should be set to search for 4G by default.

Found it, PJNC284 offered this to get to the page to turn on or off 4G.

A toggle would make sense but there isn't one (apparently it's coming "soon" though).  One suggestion is to go to the dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#*.  Hit Phone Information and scroll down to "Set preferred network type" and change that to CDMA (auto PRL).  Use the back softkey to back out to your home screen.

This places the phone only on 3G. So I would make sure it is not set to what PJNC stated.

and being in phoenix, i do suspect it's an issue with your thunderbolt, as the network here is exceptional. when LTE rolled out, the data doctors got a usb modem from verizon and went all over the valley testing it out, with great results. i have yet to see the tbolt in action outside of a verizon store though.

I've been having trouble getting 4G (or even 3G) at home, where the coverage map says I am dead-center in a '4G LTE Coverage Area' I've read in other forums ( http://forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=745762 ) that this is unfortunately commonly occurring right now. Has anybody spoken to a VZW rep and gotten offical word on why this is happening or when it's expected to be resolved?

Sorry for the blank post, it looks like IE9 and the Community have issues.

FWIW I just got off the phone with Verizon Tech and they confirmed that this is a known problem, as well as the Weather App occasionaly showing an incorrect location.  HTC has been notified and is working on a fix, no ETA as to when.  So far the only thing that has worked for me is to power the phone off and back on.  I have tried switching into/out-of 4G vs. the key sequence above, but this does not seem to do the trick.

Try installing the app called LTE On/Off from the android market, it's free.  Then run it, and under the settings, choose LTE only, (should be the last setting on the list).  See if that works.  I know if I'm in a fringe area, my phone will usually choose 3g first and stay locked on it.  Also, you can try doing a restart on your phone.  Push and hold the on/off button and choose restart.  This will close all running apps and clear your cache.  Mine was stuck on 1x and I did this and it worked.  Good luck.

Do a master reset, and if it doesn't work contact vzw.

Changing your raido settings is a bandaid fix at best
