My iphone4 has been receiving & sending crazy garbled text symbols to/from another line on our plan which have not been physically sent by either phone! These are not texts that were sent and came through in a symbol translation. They will just appear on each others message thread and I've tried translating them but am unable to. Has anyone else experienced this or know what may be causing it? I'm worried it could be a type of virus,.

I don't know about the OP's problem, but yours definitely sounds like telemarketer texts. Most of the time replying does in fact make them stop, but some people are wary to do this because it lets them know that a person is associated with the phone. Too bad you can't block numbers on the iPhone

As for those automated messages, if they're from a 5 or 6 digit number, reply "stop" (no punctuation, no signature, just the four letters). If they're from a 10 digit number, do not reply, those are from a person fishing for live numbers.

Have you confirmed this? Because I was told this and posted it on here, but people are still saying that doesn't work.

We would like to thank the community for your great suggestions; we would also like to add that you are able to select several blocking options by using the self-serve options in your "My Verizon" account. Please select the following link: https://wbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/secure/router.action for additional assistance.
Once you sign in, scroll down to where is says "I WANT TO " From the second Colum marked "Plan" select "Block Calls and Messages" This will take you to a page where you will be able to choose "Internet and Spam Blocking" or 'Service Blocks".
Thank You

Thank You Jax Omen for your input. However, instead of calling customer care to block numbers, a customer can block numbers from calling their Verizon Wireless number by going online to "My Verizon" logging in under the account owner user id and password. However, we have had no reported issues of a "any" virus on the iPhone at this time, especially with the concerns about the iPhone receiving and sending crazy garbled text symbols to/from another phone. We also would have the same difficulty trying to translating the unknown symbols. Please check to see if there is an application running in the background on the device that perhaps trying to do a function such as your describing. If there is a growing concern with the issue, please know we will be working to resolve the concerns as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
Sincerely,
edw@vzwsupport
