Hey guys
I've got a droid that I purchased used and I want to do a hard reset to clear out all the previous owners information. I've been searching the internet for answers. The power and x button method does not work, it just boots over and over. The on-screen method resets the phone, but everything is exactly the same after. I'm pretty good with technology, but this is my first smart phone. I brought it to a verizon store and they couldn't get it to reset, or load the older software. Any ideas of what else I could try to perform a hard reset? Thanks

Ok
After I determined that this phone was not rooted, and nothing would work,
I downloaded Rsdlite 4.6, the motorola usb drivers, and a leaked copy of Android 2.0.0 (sbf file). I used RSDlite to flash the phone myself (after verizon techs at the store said they couldn't get it to work) to 2.0.0, which wiped the phone completely. I completed the 'out of the box' initializing and it prompted me for a software update to 2.1. A minute later, another sw update to 2.2, then one more update. I copied my contacts from my old sony phone to the computer via bluetooth, then copied them from the comp to my sd card, then finally to my phone! Phone is perfect now and I love it!

Also, it won't let me delete the previous users google account off the phone, one of the main reasons I want to do the hard reset. It says "cannot delete because other apps require it, must perform hard reset" to

Before you do the factory restore, go to "settings", "privacy", and make sure that "back up my data" (or something like that) is unchecked. If that is checked, it will automatically restore all of the data and apps.
Try that and let us know what happens.

Ok, I did as you suggested. The backup option was selected, however unchecking it didn't help, I tried all forms of reset, unsuccessfully, and I still cannot delete the old google account.

Darn.
The only way to remove a Google account from a Droid phone is to do a restore.
I've never seen this before.
I'm gonna send this to someone that might be able to help.

That's pretty much what they said at the store. Weird thing is that everything else on the phone works perfectly

One more question...
Do you know if this phone has been rooted (meaning the phone's firmware has been replaced with something other than the original Moto/Verizon firmwate?)
I have it on good authority that your issue shouldn't at all be possible with the stock ROM, but is definitely possible with a non-factory ROM. If this is the case, the store guys should have caught this quickly.
Just an idea,

You could be right, but how could I tell if it has been rooted? I'm just now trying to familiarize myself with phone rooting. The firmware says 2.0.1. Thanks, btw, for all the help.
