I received a text message from a friend that forwarded me a text from Verizon. It says that if I send this text to 10 people, Verizon will give me a $50 credit on my next bill, Happy Holidays from Verizon. Is this legit?

I received this text, and went ahead and sent it on think "what harm can it do?" Then a couple of hours later my mother in law calls me in a panic, telling me she called Verizon and that its a scam and someone is going to charge you ten dollars. Then she continued to ramble on about some 900 number. So my question is can any harm/charges come from come from a seemingly harmless text? If no harm can come it, then isn't it really just a prank and not a scam?

If someone starts getting a ton of texts and does not have a text package then yes it can cause harm.
