Droid X 4G?

I have been reading around and many people are saying that not only has Best Buy confirmed this but Verizon as well, but the Droid X is supposed to be 4G capable when LTE is launched via an OTA update. Anyone heard anything about this? Thanks.

False rumors. Droid X doesn't support LTE. It would need duel radios to do so, which it doesn't have. While it would be awesome if X did have 4G capabilities, most likely you won't see any 4G Verizon phones until mid 2011. For the first several months the only things that will support 4G will be USB modems, etc. Phones won't be until later, after the network has been throughly tested.

4G is a fancy catch phrase that some services are using.  Look up download speeds for the EVO 4G.  They are slower than T-Mobile's 3G service.    True 4G technology is supposed to boast speeds in excess of 21mb/s, right now the fastest 3G is T-mobile's which is creeping up on 3mb/s, so there is still a ways the current 3G radios can in phones like the Droid X can go before becoming obsolete.  As for VZW LTE progress, devices are supposed to start appearing near the end of this year and into early next year.

So when you see the advertisements of 4G service, don't put to much credibility on it just yet.

Bestbuy hasnt confirmed anything regarding 4G.  There are some posts of a Best Buy "goof" on a simulated screen image showing the 4G connection.  Probably used the same screen image they used on an EVO for that.

But no way is the X 4G capable or ready or anything else.

And to the point that 4G is thrown around as a marketing term.....of course it is, just like all other "tech" specs.  Sprint DOES have a decent 4G service in limited cities right now, so they arent lying about that fact.
