Will I get charged any data charges if I text updates to Twitter or Facebook? I have unlimited texting. But NOT unlimited Data!

If you are signed up for FB Mobile and for getting SMS updates from Twitter, they DO count as text messages. Anything you send as an SMS to 32665 (FBOOK) or 40404 (Twitter) or any notifications you receive via text count. If you are using the BB app for Facebook, updates you post via that would probably be data, and covered by that plan. But if you are TEXTING the update to 32665, it counts as text. The same goes for Twitter - using the APP on the BB uses data, getting SMS notifications uses text. You CAN use both FB and Twitter without signing up for the SMS updates.

Minnehaha was correct! ( ) I, too, have unlimited TEXTING, but no data plan. I update my Facebook, upload photos, reply to private messages, comment on things, "like" things....all text, NO data. You choose whose status updates and comments you want to receive via text, and what you want to see and be able to respond to, very customizable.
Same general stuff applies to Twitter (though I don't use that as much).
post back if you need more direction....and thanks for the credits, Minniehaha!

I just got my Droid X yesterday and have been playing around with it.
so are you saying that i will get charged for a text message if i do the following:
- i post facebook status and wall updates.
- received twitter updates (not post updates)
what about email via gmail app? or receive updates from other people in facebook app?
and you also said:
"You CAN use both FB and Twitter without signing up for the SMS updates."
how can this be done since i pay per text?

how can this be done since i pay per text? You can use the phone's browser to access FB and Twitter, and there are apps for those sites too. Those use your data. SMS messaging uses texts, and is available for those without smartphones or data plans.
Hope that clears it up ronron - post back if you have more questions.

What about GChat?
Or can i just generalize and say that if the message comes into or goes out of the "Text Messaging" app, i'm gonna pay for the message?
