Data Roaming - Data connectivity was lost because you left...

Why do I keep getting this message while on wifi and sitting in my home?  I also don't have a 3G or 1X indicator and only one tiny signal bar is showing most of the time.  Other times I have no signal bars, just my wifi icon.

Check to make sure you do not have Data Roaming enabled.  The steps are below.  After doing so, try dialing *228 send and option 2, when you are in an area where you are getting at least 3 signal bars.  This will update your phone to the nearest cell towers.  HTH!

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Data manager.
Touch Data Delivery.
Touch Data Roaming.
Note Enabled when a green check mark is present.(you will need to disable it)

Then touch ok.

Thank you for the reply.  I had already turned off the "Data Roaming" option on my Droid X.

I am at my home when this warning comes on.  I am also on my wifi at home and as such I do not get any indicators of 3G or 1X connectivity.  I usually have one tiny signal bar showing next to the wifi signal icon.

It does seem that if I turn my wifi off, I do get a 3G signal icon and I have about 3 signal strength bars.

With my wifi on, I'm assuming I can get cell phone calls but it doesn't appear that I'm getting a 3G cell phone signal with my wifi turned on.  How can I confirm that I do have a 3G signal when wifi is turned on?

Any additional help?

P.S.  I called Verizon Tech Support (*611) last week to ask why I can't see a 3G or 1X icon and my wifi icon at the same time.  The Verizon Tech Rep. connected me with Motorola Tech Support which said they would call me at 3:30 pm.

Motorola Tech Support never called.  Do you have a direct number where I can reach them?

The “3G’ or “1X” indication is the wireless data/voice provided through your phone carrier (ex. Verizon Wireless). The WiFi signal is provided either by a home network, or a place of business. The WiFi technology is completely separate from the “3G’ or “1X” technology for data or voice use. The “3G” or “1X” indicator on your Motorola Droid X will be replaced by your WiFi connection (when connecting to WiFi), causing the “3G” or “1X” indication to disappear.

*****Please be advised that when you are connected to WiFi, you will be unable to send or receive calls until it is disabled.

I hope this information was helpful.

As stated above, you should never see the wifi connected symbol and 3G since you're either using one or the other.  Connect to wifi and your 3G connection to verizon will drop and you'll be using the broadband connection from the router you're connected to.  And I've never had an issue making or receiving calls when connected to wifi.  It's the only way that you can get simultaneous voice and data on Verizon.

Well, I knew most all of that.  I really don't believe that if I'm on wifi at my home, which I am 90% of the time, then I can't receive a cell phone call.  In fact, I've received many calls already with my phone on wifi.  Also, it wouldn't make sense if a person went to a public place and used the free wifi, that they couldn't also receive cell phone calls.

Lately, I have seen the 3G with bars and my wifi signal icon showing on my phone at the same time.  My phone seems to be working perfectly now.  I was just wondering about the icon displays.

Also, the warning about Data Roaming doesn't seem to be preventing me from doing anything so I'll just ignore it.  I wish there was a way to turn that notification off.  I've already looked in my Data Roaming settings and see nothing there.
