When our phones updated from marshmallow to nougat it was taking for ever over wifi for both phones. I didn't want to use my data since I knew it was going to be a large file. So while the one phone was on wifi I turned wifi and mobile data off just to see what would happen. I was shocked when the phone just started to download faster then the phone that was on wifi. It took less then 10 minutes  to download while the other phone was at like 8%. so I stopped that one and turned everything off and it too was done in under 10 minutes. It was like an hour to get it to 8%. When I checked my data usage it did not use any at all.

Luddy12, when leading a busy life we know that getting access quickly is important. You mentioned that it seems to be taking time to get access, is this with all Wi-Fi connections or just one? What steps have you taken previously when looking into this issue?

Thank goodness for this post.  I learned more here than I did calling Verizon technical support. Just noticed my phone having this issue since coming back from vacation. In the process of backing up my phone to do the factory reset to hopefully fix the issue.

Called Verizon about this issue and they got me to tier 2 tech who spent half the time telling me it was a router issue. It wasn't until I revealed that i have a degree in Electrical Engineering that he even talked to me like I knew what I was talking about.  I mentioned that I looked on the Verizon thread online and he acted as if I was lying.  If Verizon actually communicated issues users are having to their technicians a lot of frustration would be avoided. I may not have been happy but a lot less frustration would have occurred on BOTH sides if the technician would have said,  ma'am we have had reports of this issue and we can try these things but you may need to factory reset instead of blaming it on someone else.

Been a customer for almost 10 years, even have family who works for them. This is the kind of stuff that makes customers want to leave. Okay ending rant now.

Lovely_ess, wifi problems began to appear here immediately after the Nougat broadcast began.  The first update supposedly fixed the wifi issues, but I have no confidence that it did.  I share your frustration with VZW customer support.  It seems they have 'canned' responses for certain problems.  I agree completely with you about them knowing about existing Nougat problems.  All they would have to is read the posts here to see the issues, and how many similar problems users are having.  You'd think they would fix the problems when patterns appear.
