Hi,
If you have a regular phone, look at the key pad. 6245 spells out MAIL. This short code is being sent from a Yahool email account. Call Verizon Customer Service to report it and have a block placed on that number on your line.

Any way for a cell phone to automatically send a text message to 6245 as in a virus?
Phone's user swears they are not sending email via text even though it shows up on the text usage.

VZW can place a Premium Text Message block on your line for you. You can do it yourself on My Verizon if you are registered as the account owner. See also this link for ways of blocking spam text: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1491284

Yahoo Instant Messenger? If they are texting with someone who is using YIM on their computer, and simply replying to a message received, it will appear as the 6245 code.

Hi, I was actually looking for another topic but happened to see your question...I had the same issues a few months ago. I noticed the "6245" on my bill and Googled it. I found many forum discussions on this number..everyone said it was either instant messaging or chatting. I knew I didn't use instant messager or any other chat. When I called Verizon, the representative told me the same thing..."either instant messaging, another chat service or sending/recieving e-mail." I started recording the time and date I was recieving data mesages from my bank and other companies/stores, etc... and realized that everytime my bank would send me a text notifying me of my account information, the 6245 would show up on my bill. So, I believe that it may not just be instant messaging or chatting that will cause this number to show up but also information texts you request be sent to your phone.... Once again, I have several companies/affiliations I request information from via text, however, I have only noticed this number (6245) showing up on my bill when my bank sends me a notification. I hope this information helps you:-)

If you have been texting or sending text to a saved e-mail address in your contacts which are not with pics or attachments it is likely how it is routed and shows up on your text history on the website in the "from" or "to" fields. My own bill reflects this when I check through things and friends/family members on my account have sent to my corporate e-mail account in Outlook with my employer. Hope this helps with your question.

The 6245 text is only showing up as being SENT from my relatives handset, NOT received. This would require the user of the handset to send a text to 6245, which they swear they are not doing and doesn't show up in their sent log (unless they are deleting it).
The question at hand is are they lying or is it possible that an application on the handset or virus is sending these messages?

"This would require the user of the handset to send a text to 6245", Not necessarily - if they are using Yahoo IM, Mobile IM, or sending texts to an email address, or replying to someone who is using IM (they may not even realize the other person is on their computer using IM to text) , any number of ways the 6245 code could show up without the sender actually typing in the 6245 code....
