My friend gave me his iPhone 4s. I'm living in Russia. Will it be locked?

He said it is Verizon locked, but the contract is ended up. I'm living in Russia,my question is: will i be able to use this phone with Russian GSM SIM? Currently, i can use it with a Russian carrier, but i don't know if it will be locked after FW update (currently it runs outdated iOS 7.0.3) or just all of the sudden, or not at all.

That was very nice of your friend to give you his old iPhone, icyflower8. We don't lock our phones; therefore, if its currently working, it will still work after the update.
