Lollipop lockscreen on S4: can't have personal message

I got the Lollipop update OK on my S4, and unlike some folks' experiences, basic functions are working. But this one is not: I'd like to display a personal message on the lockscreen, as I did with Android 4.4.2. I've also tried changing to a larger clock. These settings are in Settings (which used to be on the Menu key from a Home page, but now has to be accessed as an app) > My device > Lock screen > Lock screen widgets. I can change all kinds of stuff there, but it never sticks. I do find that I can make a change there and restart the phone, and then what I have changed will appear. One time. If I lock the phone and hit the power or home button to open it back up, I get just a fairly small time and date display at the top, then the notifications. No personal message if I've selected that; no large clock if I've selected that. Yet my chosen settings do appear in the Lock screen widgets settings. I even tried clearing the cache partition, which DawnO found enabled her to change her lockscreen wallpaper. I'd always been able to do that; but the cache wipe didn't help with this. Anyone else experience this? Or have a fix?

Hi Dave-in-Decatur, we definitely want all of your features working for you the way they should on your device. Let's get to the bottom of this. If you go into Settings>Sounds and Notifications>While Locked and choose the option "Do Not Show Notifications" does your personal message remain on the lock screen or does it still disappear? Also, does the Clock remain in the larger display chosen after doing this? If the clock doesn't remain in large, does it state a different size once you go back into the Lock Screen settings for the Clock Widget size?

Please keep us posted. Looking forward to your response.

Yes this works on both counts. (On my S4, BTW, it is Sound and Notifications>Notifications on lock screen.)

"Works," at any rate, in the sense that if I disable a valuable feature, another valuable feature now functions. Is this how the OS is intended to work? Is there no way to have both notifications and personal message or customized clock size (and owner information) on the lockscreen?

I'm having the exact same problems on my S4 after updating last night (5/13/15).

I *desparately* need a larger clock size AND the notifications.  I can deal w/no personal message, but considering the message and clock size seem linked, I'm hoping fixing one fixes the other.

Two other notes/requests...

1.  The orange color for the Messaging app is literally painful to my eyes.  And it's nothing against orange, orange is one of my favorite colors, there's just something about that particular shade that is very hard to look at.  I would LOVE to be able to customize that color.

2.  The font and background changes for the alarm app makes them difficult to see at a glance.  With the transparent background, I really feel the font needs to be in bold or some other kind of denser style.

Other than that, I think I'll be able to adapt to all the changes alright...though like everyone else, it seems some of the style/format changes were unnecessary and are simply frustrations added to the process for no reason (e.g. changing the size of the assistive lighting widget).

Regarding colors, fonts, etc., it's all part of Google's "Material Design" remake of Android and other things. They put time and money into it, so it's not going to change soon, I don't suppose. See my post here.
