Hi everyone, does anyone have experience with a certified pre-owned smartphone? Verizon sells the galaxy S 4 as a certified pre-owned phone option for pennies if you do a contract. Wondering if its a safe bet or something I should avoid?????

Speaking as someone who has gotten 4-5 preowned phones as replacements for warranty issues, they all seem fine by me. My issues were related to OTA updates, not hardware.

My new G2 was replaced each time with refurbished units, since Verizon doesn't replace phones with new phones under warranty exchanges. I didn't have much choice. And, since you are going to replace a phone at some point (some people anyway) you might as well start out with a refurb, but I agree, the S4 is a bit old to start a 2 year contract with.

i used to buy them just to stay off contract because they were cheaper. i've never had an issue and the 2 or 3 i've bought, you couldn't tell the difference between them and brand new ones. but i also agree with others here. it's already 2 years old. seems like you should be able to get a brand new one for free if you're signing a 2 year contract. it will be 4 years old by the time you're out of contract. i wouldn't do that. if they want me to sign a 2 year contract, they'd have to give me something for free that was closer to 1 year old. just my opinion, but now that the s6 is out, i could see them giving away the s5 on a 2 year contract in a few months. it's only $99 now.

S5 is 49.99 CPO even. But if I was going for a .99 cents phone, I might look at the Moto X 2nd gen.
