Leaving a Company - Would like to take my phone number

So I am leaving a company in two weeks, and I would like to take my phone number with me. The issue is I have a iPhone 6 on the line that I got when they came out, and they want to keep the phone. They are willing to pay the ETF, but I want to keep Verizon. It isn't worth it to me to buy a phone outright, so I am considering getting a new number.

My current options that I have been told:

  • Assumption of Liability: I will have to buy a new phone outright or a used one
  • Add another line and use that to get a new phone: This option is going to cost me more monthly, I see it better off getting a new number.
  • Get a new number.

I have been wondering, is there anyway Verizon can do a port on a number that is already Verizon? The company doesn't care what the number attached to the phone is, they just want to keep the phone. They also have offered to pay ETF, but I want to keep Verizon.

Any input on this would be helpful.

I am confused on what you are asking. You said you want to leave. The other company is going to make you give back the phone to pay the ETFs, which you do not want to do.

Then you said you are thinking about getting a new number?

What is your end goal and we can give you the best way to do it.

Give the company their phone back, somehow give the company line a new number and they will use the line on another employee or just Early Terminate the line themselves.

I would like to take my phone number and get a new iPhone 6 on the EDGE plan.

I would just get a new number in your name and sign up for the edge program. When you leave the company, you should not have to pay the ETFs. They own the line.

This would depend upon if the line is actually in the company's name of the individual's name. If the individual's name yet the company paid for the phone, you have a bit of a problem.

Problem #1 is that the individual is not able to purchase a new phone at a discount, but must pay full price if the original phone is given back to the company. This is not a problem in and of itself, but not being eligible for the out of contract discount on the line access fee WOULD be a problem, for me at least. I would certainly not give the phone back if the line is under contract IN MY NAME and I had to purchase a new phone at full retail UNLESS the company were to somehow offset the cost of a new phone.

Of course, the company can take over liability for the line in question and the OP can start a new line of service. More information is certainly needed in order to give accurate advice on how to proceed.

The company owns both the line and the phone. I just have had it forever, and do not want to go through the pain of getting a new number. The simple option here is to just get a new number.

You could do the Assumption of Liability plan. Will they give you the number? They could just add a line for the next person if its needed. The issue is you would pick up the contract at that spot, so you would not be able to get edge for atleast 6 months.

Is the iphone 6 on edge or in contract? If its on edge, you would not be able to cross the line over anyways.
