They could be restored if they were set up with either B.A. or Google.. Google is the easiest and contacts can be updated by entering the Gmail Site and clicking on contacts.. But if either of these services were used I'd say it's probable near impossible to get them restored..
But you might give one of these Google Services a try.. Not sure one will work but its worth a shot
