My son's iphone 4s keeps shutting down and there's a message that reads "activation required". When I swipe to unlock I have to enter his apple ID and password. Then everything looks normal but after a minute or so the screen turns black with the apple logo and the "activation required" message appears again. Do I need to reset to factory settings or does this require a call to verizon?
Are you able to make calls on it? Have you tried restarting the device to see if anything changes?

That certainly seems out of the ordinary. Let's check a few things out before we head down the reset road. What software version do you have on that device?

We are having the same problem on one of our devices: iphone 4s, ios 7. Activation required, then after entering apple id, there's no service, then searching, then back to login. Connected to iTunes, it let me activate and shows the device, but the device is still doing the same thing.
Correction, version is 8.0 (in Settings, General, About, Version)
