About once a week I wake up to find my phone totally dead with no charge at all even though it was charged fully when I went to bed. Any suggestions?

Is it ever overly warm to the touch? Could be a run-away app using the cpu constantly. There are apps on the Play Store that can alert you to the app in question, if there is an issue. Also, you can check your battery stats from your settings menu under Battery. If the Kernel or Android System or Cell Standby is using the most, there is most likely an app issue.

Is this happening on the same time/day each week or more at random? Have you checked to see what is using your battery? Also what is your normal charging pattern for your device? Give more information.

Why don't you just turn off your phone at night?

You could turn it off at night, but no way any phone should be dead by morning with no use and fully charged beforehand. I suggest finding the reason why.
