Google Talk Minutes with Droid?

The salesperson at my Verizon store warned me that Google Talk would actually use my call minutes (i'm on a 450 minute plan)... Does anyone know how this works? Do IM's through it count against text messages? and any link-ups via voice go to your call minutes? I clicked on the app and left it running for about 17 hours when I realized how you can shut off apps running in the background. If I get charged for 17 hours of calling airtime I'm definitely in trouble :smileysurprised:

Thanks!!!!!!!!

If you have your data plan with texting it should not count against you.

And the only time you use minutes is when you're actually calling someone, the App itself doesn't take up minutes just for being on. What he meant was, is that if you're calling with GV, it will use your VZW minutes.

nope, google Talk is the instant messaging app that uses the jabber protocol.  This app is a tcp/ip network app and only uses the data connection.  Even google voice only uses the data connectioin.

The techs at the store are sadly confused or misinformed.

So it would go against your unlimited 5Gig cap then?

There is no 5GB max from what I've read here.

When I initiate a call from my Droid it asks whether I want to use Google Voice. If I respond "yes" I'm sure it still uses my cell phone minutes. What I don't know for sure  is whether the party I'm calling sees my Google Voice number (I presume) on their Caller ID not my cell phone number.
