Can I keep my contract number when switching to a prepaid plan?

Hi,

I am on a family plan with my dad, brother, etc.  Long story short, I want to go to my own plan once my contract is up, and I want it to be prepaid.  I'll be saving money, and I tend to keep a phone for 3-4 years, so I'm prepared to pay the full upgrade price when I need to.  My question is:  can I keep the same number when I end my contract, and switch to a prepaid plan?  This is pretty important to me, not a dealbreaker, but it's be awesome if I don't have to change my phone number I've been using for 6 years already.

Second part to the question:  does Verizon offer any kind of phone insurance with prepaid plans?

Thanks!

Hey there cam513143,

I'm happy to know that you're considering our prepaid plans. It's a cost effective option to remain on the nations most reliable network.

Ann154 is correct, the best time to do it is when you are out of contract to avoid any Early Termination Fees.  I also have great news, it is possible for you to keep your number. When you are ready to make the switch to one of our prepaid accounts you would want to give us a call at 1-800-922-0204 and let us know that you want to switch your number to prepaid. We would then disconnect your line using a special reason code and then get you over to our Telesales team to get you set up on a prepaid account. It is a pretty simple process.

Before any of this happened we would need you to be authorized on the account. If you aren't already, have the account owner add you through My Verizon,http://vz.to/1hGBCxI.

To view our current prepaid phone options as well as plans visit http://vz.to/1hCP6KW. Our prepaid team can also be contacted directly at 888-294-6804.

You have to wait until you are out of contract before switching to a prepaid plan.

I doubt it on the insurance since the phones have to be purchased at the full retail price.

Also if you currently have a 4G LTE smartphone, the phone isn't compatible with the current prepaid plans offered by Verizon Wireless.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
